Coincidentally, he explains how his "friend Aaron [35M] just proposed to his girlfriend Amber [30F] at the end of June."
Everybody got together to have a 4th of July party and things were going well.
Kate Asked To See The Ring—Then Asked What Kind Of Stones Were In The Ring
During the party, Kate and some of the other women in attendance asked to see Amber's ring.
Apparently, there were a lot of "ooo's and aah's amongst the group," especially when Kate asked Amber what kind of stones were in the ring.
The Ring Was A "41 Diamond, 3-Carat" Sparkler
Amber explained her new sparkler had "40 diamonds and the center was a 1-carat diamond."
In total that makes 41 diamonds and a total of 3 carats. The Reddit poster explained it was "technically a solitaire with an elaborate band and no halo."

Kate Started Grilling The Couple About How They Afforded The Ring
After Amber gave the specs on the ring, Kate questioned her on how they could possibly afford that ring on their budget, which she believed to be $1,500.
The Redditor says his budget for Kate's ring was $1,500, and he was also under the impression that Aaron had the same budget because they had gone ring shopping together.
She Suspected That Aaron Had Been Scammed And Sold A Compromised Ring
Beginning to show her jealousy, Kate said that Aaron must’ve gotten cheated when buying the ring and someone must have told him there were more diamonds in the band than there truly were.
In comparison, "Kate's ring is a half carat solitaire."
Aaron Revealed He Spent $6,000 On The Ring
The Redditor noticed that Amber's ring was not the same ring Aaron had originally picked out, but he didn't mention it.
At this point, Aaron revealed to the group that he'd never planned to stick with the $1,500 budget, instead spending $6,000 because he could afford it. He then produced the authenticity card that came with the ring to prove he hadn't been cheated.
The Redditor's Fiancée Asked Why He Didn't Go Over Their Own Budget
Aaron explained that Amber is very money conscious and as a result, he had secretly been saving for two years to purchase the ring, which he paid for in cash. He wanted to surprise her with the best.
On the drive home from the party, Kate asked her fiancé why he hadn't made a similar romantic gesture, and said she wished he hadn't focused so much on the budget.
She Asked For A Different Ring
The Reddit poster explained that he didn't like large flashy diamond rings. "They look gaudy, and I think they're a waste of money."
Unfortunately, Kate disagreed. She said that she should get a different ring that shows how her fiancé truly feels. He stood his ground and said that her current ring does represent how he feels and was in the budget they agreed upon.
She Then Tried To Backtrack
Kate tried to explain that she was not envious of Amber's ring, but "that Amber is with someone that is more focused on her personal value, not budgets."
Obviously, her fiancé didn't take well to this personal attack and he said he snapped, leaving things "frosty in the house" ever since.

He ended the post by asking for advice and saying he's not sure what to do. His fiancée has never complained about the size of her ring before, but he mentions that this is their "biggest disagreement in the last 4 years."
