Rare And Valuable Action Figures That Are Worth A Small Fortune
Some people are smart, saving their action figures in the original wrapping in the hopes of it becoming valuable later in life. And, for some people, the wait pays off!
From the $1,500 rocket-firing Boba Fett to the $200,000 Prototype G.I. Joe, here are some of the most valuable action figures around.
Darth Vader With Double-Telescoping Lightsaber: $22,000
While there are many Darth Vader action figures on the market, nothing compares to the original. In 1978, Kenner created a Darth Vader with a double-telescoping lightsaber, a weapon that was able to extend with the flick of a tiny switch.
It's this one feature that makes this Darth Vader worth around $22,000.
Blue Wasp: $5,000
While Marvel's blue wasp was mass-produced wearing her red superhero costume, only a handful of her wearing her blue costume were ever released. Produced by ToyBiz in 2006, the action figure skyrocketed in popularity thanks to the MCU.
This particular blue wasp action figure sold at eBay auction for $5,000.
Batman Robot: $2,530
Nomura created the Batman robot in 1966, exclusively for distribution in Japan. As it turns out, the sole location of this action figure has driven the price for it up substantially.
The battery-operated toy sold at Hake's Auction for a solid $2,530. But collectors say a mint-condition Batman Robot in its original box would be worth more.
Vinyl Cape Jawa: $5,000
Kenner created a line of vinyl-caped Jawa action figures in 1978. Since the Jawa's aren't exactly a main character in the Star Wars franchise, it might seem silly that they're so valuable.
Their value comes from Kenner's decision to change the vinyl cape to fabric in their later lines. Because of this, a rare vinyl-caped Jawa sold at an eBay auction for $5,000.
Prototype G.I. Joe: $200,000
The Prototype G.I. Joe action figure is one of a kind, handcrafted by Don Levine in 1964. Being the start of one of the biggest franchise characters in history, it only makes sense that this particular action figure is worth a lot of money.
In 2003, Levine's prototype was sold to a private collector for $200,000.
Blue-Hatted Babe Ruth: $13,600
In 2008, McFarlane Toys created collectible Babe Ruth action figures. The thing is, all but five were created wearing white Yankees baseball caps. Those other five had blue caps.
While McFarlane kept two of the five, three were distributed amongst the public. In 2009, one of these blue-capped Babe Ruth action figures sold at an eBay auction for $13,600.
Yak Face: $5,000
Yak Face had a very small part in the Star Wars franchise, visiting Jaba the Hut in Return of the Jedi. Amazingly, even with the small role he played, the Yak Face action figure is one of the most valuable around.
Created by Kenner in 1985, the Yak Face action figure sold for $5,000 at an eBay auction.
El Capitan Rayo: $2,000-$8,000
Amazingly, many people have never even heard of El Capitan Rayo, even though he is one of the most valuable action figures. Gulliver, a South American toy company, created the superhero based on the mold for the Superman toys.
The 1980s toy is now worth a boatload of money, an estimated price between $2,000-$8,000.
Marvelmania Ghost Rider: $2,000
Made by Fleetwood Toys in 1976, the Marvelmania Ghost Rider, complete with motorcycle and interchangeable Johnny Blaze and Ghost Rider heads, is one of the rarest Marvel action figures around.
Currently, a mint condition Marvelmania Ghost Rider in its original box is worth quite a lot of money, selling at eBay auction for $2,000.
Hulk Hogan Prototype: $50,000
In the mid-80s, LJN created, or began to create, a Hulk Hogan action figure. The company went out of business, and it was never completed. Ironically, even though the Hogan figure never became a sellable item, it is still one of the more expensive action figures around.
On eBay, the Hulk Hogan prototype is being auctioned off for $50,000.
Technodrome: $3,000
Arguably one of the coolest action figures to come out of the '90s was the Technodrome from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Complete with a Krang figure and lair, the action set was a goldmine for kids.
So much so that they're now worth a pretty penny. One sold for $3,000 during an eBay auction.
MacGyver: $400-$900
MacGyver was a top-rated show in the '80s. The thing is, this particular action figure wasn't sold in the United States, only overseas. Because of this, many collectors are willing to pay a nice sum of money.
Produced by Glasslite in 1993, this action figure has been auctioned off for between $400-$900.
Tytus: $2,000
In 1988, Mattel capitalized on the popularity of the popular series Masters of the Universe, creating an action figure based on the character Tytus. The thing is, Tytus was only released overseas, making it very rare.
It is one of the most valuable toys around, selling at auction for around $2,000.
Scratch The Cat: $1,200-$6,500
Scratch the Cat is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle villain who got his own action figure in 1993. Being a minor character in the series, though, there weren't many of the toys produced and sold in stores.
Because of this, it is a rare and highly sought-after action figure, selling between $1,200-$6,500 at auction, depending on its condition.
Rocket-Firing Boba Fett: $1,500
Boba Fett is arguably one of the most beloved Star Wars characters, having gained a solid following. Created by Kenner, this action figure was solely a mail-in order. And while they had plans for in-store sales, it never happened.
Due to this, the rocket-firing Boba Fett is worth a pretty penny, having been sold during an eBay auction for $1,500.
Optimus Prime: $500-$1,200
Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, received his own action figure in 1984. Created by Hasbro, the Transformers toy was able to shift between its robot form and a truck, making it very cool for kids.
Now, it's a collector's item that sells for a pretty penny if it's in mint condition with the original box, between $500-$1,200.
Dinosaucers: $700+
The Brazilian toy company Glasslite produced Dinosaucer action figures throughout the '80s, even though the television show was a flop. Even so, they are a very sought-after collector's item, as they weren't released in the United States.
While a majority of these action figures are out of their boxes, they're still worth a little over $700, depending on their condition.
Spider-Man: $349
In the early 1970s, Mego produced one of their most popular action figures, the Marvel superhero Spider-Man. And while there are many Spidey figures out on the market, this one remains one of the rarest and most valuable.
Currently, an in-box Spider-Man is being auctioned off on eBay for $349.
Megator: $2,000
Mattel created a Megator action figure in 1988, based on the character from the popular series Masters of the Universe. The thing is, the figure is so rare because it was solely released overseas.
Due to the scarce number of figures available, Megator has been able to sell at auction for $2,000.
Attack Armor Batman: $500
Mattel released a line of Batman superhero action figures in 2004, including the Attack Armor Batman. Interestingly, this particular line didn't sell well. So, the company didn't produce many. Luckily for collectors, it's not one of the more sought-after Batman figures out there.
The rare figure is worth up to $500, depending on its condition.
