This Is Shaquille O’Neal’s Former Florida Mega-Mansion
Shaquille O'Neal is known for his large stature, imposing basketball skills, and massive car collection. But there's one other larger-than-life aspect of Shaq's legacy: his real estate holdings including this Florida mega-mansion that he owned until recently. The staggering estate includes 31,000 square feet of living space sitting on three acres. It includes a 1,170 square foot great room, a 6,000 square foot indoor basketball court, a 15-feet-deep pool, a 17-car garage, and so much more. Read on to see all the amenities that Shaq enjoyed in this home.
Pulling Up To The Massive Estate
The gated entrance and massive driveway make it clear right from the start that this is no ordinary house. The vibrant blue roof makes the expansive property standout among lush trees, but it also blends well with the surrounding water.
A tall awning supported by pillars provides shade to the drive-up area and gives the home a feeling of grandeur. A large, circular planter creates a roundabout for cars to abide by as they enter and exit.
A Stunning Foyer
Once you enter the home, you're greeted by a foyer that looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. Two curved staircases with intricate iron detailing and glossy, wooden handrails lead to a balcony above.
The light, wood floors are heavily glossed and feature dark, curved lines that create a pathway towards the great room. The architectural details and contrasting tones give the eye much to take in as you make your way through the grand entrance.
The Great Room Lives Up To Its Name
If you head straight past the foyer and in between the two curved staircases, you'll enter the "great room." The large gathering place is decorated in such a way that it combines elements of a living room and a dining area.
As we'll see, there are multiple rooms in the megamansion that could be considered a living room or eating area, equipped with dining tables. The mansion is a dream for someone who loves to entertain, as it would comfortably accommodate hundreds of guests.
A Room For Any Purpose
From the opposite direction, you can see how the architecture really makes the great room pop. The ceiling extends to the height of the roof and is emphasized with wooden beams laid out in a pattern.
Three bay windows open up the far wall to expose the waterfront view behind dramatic navy drapes. A piano is positioned against the left wall and opposite the eye-catching fireplace. At nearly 1200 square feet and double-height, you could build an entire house in this space alone.
A Formal Dining Room For 16
The formal dining room is located next to the foyer and features the same color tones and architectural detailing that we saw at the home's entrance. Two light features hang above the extra long table, which has room for a whopping 16 guests.
The pinstripe fabric of the chairs picks up on the design on the floors. The dark, stone table has the glossy effect present throughout the home, causing light to dance across the tabletop.
A Waterfront Chef's Kitchen
The chef's kitchen features a double-wide fridge over which there is a built-in, flat-screen television! The massive island is lined with tall chairs that are in perfect view of the TV. A double oven and ample shelving ensure that large cooking needs can be met.
A full-size dining room table offers extra seating for guests and overlooks the beautiful, waterfront view outside. Recessed lighting causes the room to glisten while wooden beams make the space feel warm and homey.
A Place To Unwind
To the left of the kitchen is this cozy but spacious living room. A floor to ceiling fireplace provides separation between this area and the kitchen while still allowing the rooms to flow from one to the next.
A light feature hidden in a beam above the sliding glass doors illuminates the vaulted ceilings while the chandelier ties the room together. A large sectional atop a soft area rug encourages guests to get snug by the fireplace.
A Personalized Mural
Facing the opposite direction in the living room, you'll see this wall mural that has Shaq written all over it. An image of downtown covers the wall and parts of a semi truck are used to give the illusion that the truck is driving straight towards you.
On the grill of the truck is the Superman logo, a favorite of Shaq's that reappears throughout the home. If you look closely, you'll notice that that the truck's driver is none other than Shaq himself.
Personal Movie Theater
When you're as famous as Shaq, going to the movie theaters can mean being bombarded by adoring fans. So, it only makes sense that he has his very own movie theater inside his megamansion. The space features raked lounge chair seating that can accommodate ten viewers.
In the back corner is a popcorn machine and framed movie posters line the walls. In addition to recessed lighting, there is also light sconces that emit that trademark theater lighting during a showing, and feature the Superman logo Shaq loves so much.
An Entertainment Space
In case there weren't enough places to entertain in this megamansion, there's also this gathering place. It features a pool table with a waterfront view, multiple television screens, a minibar, a dining room table, and a living room furniture set.
It would be a perfect room to host a game night in or to do a mock casino party. Guests can play poker at the table, enjoy a drink at the counter, or play charades around the couch.
An Upstairs Bonus Room
This megamansion is truly a dream place to hold massive parties, as it has so many places to lounge with guests and incredible views from them all! Here is yet another entertainment space that has a complete wet bar with a flat-screen television.
The room features warm, bronze walls with a stone-like design and a matching ceiling. White crown moulding brightens up the space and massive sliding glass doors allow natural light to fill the room.
A Pool With A Water View
The gorgeous pool has an impressive length but isn't your typical rectangular shape. Its unique design is pleasing to look at and features a built-in spa and a shallow ledge for young children.
Being that Shaq stands at just over 7-feet-tall, it's not surprising that he wanted a deep pool. He opted for a 15-feet-deep pool to ensure that he gets the feeling of being fully submerged. While swimming, you can look out at the view and feel as though you're swimming in the ocean.
A Swim Up Bar
Another thing that sets this pool apart from most is the swim-up bar with underwater stools lining. Guests don't even have to get out of the water to grab a drink or a burger! Shaq can grab a patty off the grill, turn around and deliver it straight to his guests.
From this angle, you can also see the gorgeous waterfall feature that pours into the pool. The rock wall and surrounding vegetation offer plenty of privacy.
Plenty Of Space For His Car Collection
It's no secret that Shaq loves to splurge on luxury vehicles. Naturally, he needs a place to keep all of his cars safe. That's why this mansion is equipped with several garages and showrooms. Here you can see one of his cars parked in the middle of a showroom.
Mirrors surround the walls to show off the vehicle from every angle, and the floor is covered in clean tiles rather than oil-stained cement. Of course, the room wouldn't be complete without a giant Superman logo.
A Basketball Court Fit For A Pro
Though Shaq retired from basketball years ago, we suspect he still loves to play a game with his fellow ballplayers. To make sure they can get the feel of a professional game, he had a full-sized basketball court built into his mansion.
To the left you can see his name written on the court's edge. The space features windows and a large skylight, a Superman logo, and framed jerseys and other accolades displayed on the walls.
A Spacious Spare Room
This room is barely furnished, offering merely a king-sized bed. Being that the home has 8 bedrooms and 10.5 baths, it's unlikely that each one is occupied at all times. We would guess that this room is used for overnight guests or extended family visits.
Decoration aside, this is a gorgeous room full of natural light. The ceiling curves up to reveal a lovely bay window. French doors open up to a private balcony that overlooks the mansion's impressive entrance.
An Island-Inspired Bedroom
Between the island-themed design and the poolside view, this bedroom seems more like a vacation bungalow that an everyday crashpad. The taupe-green color of the walls combined with the bamboo curtains gives the room a naturalistic feel.
The sliding glass door offers the bedroom dweller easy access to and from the pool. The corner unit also has a window to let in extra light and create a gentle cross breeze. Recessed lighting and a ceiling fan complete the charming room.
A Poolside Suite
Next door to the room we just looked at is another bedroom with exclusive pool access. Though this one doesn't have a window, it gets that same quaint view of the pool and the vegetation beyond through the sliding glass door.
The room features a wall cutout that just fits a flat-screen television that's in perfect view of the bed. A ceiling fan keeps air flowing throughout the room and recessed lighting fills the space with light once the sun's gone down.
A Luxurious En Suite
Through the mirror, you can see the wall cutout and television we saw in the previous room, indicating that this is the attached bathroom. The en suite is so impressive that if we didn't know better, we'd think it was attached to the master.
The bathroom's golden crown moulding glistens in the sunlight. A large window offers fresh air and a waterfront view. The shower stall is completely separate with its own light and a glass door while the large tub is the focal point of the space.
Two Rooms In One
This bedroom looks like it could be double the size of many master suites. The four-post bed has a bamboo-inspired design that stands out in the lightly colored room and matches the palm tree light sconces.
The soft blue walls melt into the baby blue sky and gentle waters the room overlooks. A seating area is subtly separated by an archway and adds so much space to the room that it has its own ceiling fan.
A Well-Equipped Bathroom
This bathroom features warm tiles along the floor and the walls of the rectangular shower stall. The brown undertones of the granite countertops and the wood vanity give the bathroom a homey feel and are topped with a large mirror.
You may be surprised to have noticed a standalone, porcelain bidet resting in the corner. It's a feature you don't always see in the states, but one that is highly appreciated by those who favor its use.
An Identical Bedroom
If you feel like you're having deja vu, you're not. This room is practically an exact replica of the last bedroom we saw, only the furniture and the view out the window are just slightly different.
This room features oak furniture, simple light sconces, a dresser next to the window, and a view slightly obstructed by flowing palm trees. Both rooms face the same direction, have the same layout, and offer two ceiling fans to keep cool in the summer.
A Room Fit For Superman
Shaq's room is large enough to fit an apartment inside of and luxurious enough to be fit for Superman himself. The view out of the windows is picture-perfect, and a sliding glass door in the corner offers outdoor access.
The ceiling is painted in such a way to look textured. A fireplace sits in front of the massive, circular bed fitted with a Superman blanket. Rather than a television, he has a projector that plays onto a retractable screen.
An Enormous Master Bathroom
Nothing shows the enormity of this mansion quite like Shaq's bathroom does. The tub sitting in the middle of the space looks more like a jacuzzi and even has it's own individual lighting. Across the way is a shower stall with Shaq's adored Superman logo imprinted onto the glass door.
French doors flanked by two vertical windows offer plenty of fresh air. A flat-screen television is propped below yet another window through which sunlight pours into the space.
The Master Bathroom's Other Side
We weren't kidding when we said that Shaq's bathroom is enormous. Turning in the opposite direction is the other side of the massive space. The room is so large that it makes the area rug look small.
The lengthy countertop offers plenty of storage space below and is topped with a large mirror. Straight ahead is a second shower stall and yet another toilet, next to which there is a bidet. Tucked away to the left are additional cabinetry and counter space.
An Organized Walk-In Closet
A door in the bathroom takes you to this walk-in closet. Built-in shelving makes it easy to stay organized and show off Shaq's extensive shoe collection. The space also features a built-in dresser that offers plenty of drawers and a counter to lay out clothes.
Shaq's ties hang on a wall fixture and a mirror hangs on the back of the door so that he can check his outfit before even leaving the closet. Recessed lighting fills the room.
A Sunroom Home Office
This sunroom would be a dream for someone who works from home. Being that Shaq has pursued higher education in business, we can imagine him working at this desk while looking out at the waterfront view.
On either side of his desk are seating areas where he could hold an in-person meeting or kick back and read. The room is flooded with light by day while recessed lighting comes in handy on those late work nights.
Shaded Outdoor Seating
A separate porch with a built-in awning offers a shaded place to savor the view or converse with others. The outdoor furniture provides ample seating and acts like yet another living room.
This would be a great spot to play a board game or enjoy a picnic without worrying about ants or shards of grass. The water's horizon is clear of any neighbors and a ten-foot privacy wall around the property ensures you don't have to worry about looky-loos.
The Perfect Place To Watch The Sunset
A long boardwalk comes with the property and leads out to this private lookout. In addition to a couple of lounge chairs, Shaq has a life-size Superman figure standing out on the dock who appears to be watching the sunset.
This would be a wonderful place to do some thinking or to clear your mind with meditation. Surrounded by the water and the open sky, you can escape into nature's solitude and temporarily forget about life's worries.
The Staggering Property From Above
An aerial view of the property reveals just how grand the megamansion is in terms of size. In addition to the large pool, there is also a fair amount of yard space behind the home.
From this view you can also see that a body of water is on both sides of the house, offering magnificent views to the front and the rear-facing rooms. Shaq purchased the home for just under $4 million in 1993 and has since put it on the market numerous times with an asking price of around $20 million.
Bulky But Beautiful
When it comes to bulky but luxurious cars, few can top a Hummer. Shaquille O'Neal is both a lover of cars and of living the life of luxury, so it’s no surprise he owns a Hummer H2S. His choice of a deep burgundy color only adds to the mysterious and classy feel of the car.
Shaq loves Superman, which is why the rims are cut into the shape of the Superman logo. The shiny, silver rims really pop against the dark vehicle.
The Flashiest Truck Around
You know that Shaq loves this truck based on the expression on his face alone. It's as though he’s saying, "That’s right. Check me out." This golden beauty he’s so proud of is a Ford F-150.
According to Daily Mail, the F series trucks have been the best-selling pickups for decades. However, Shaq was sure to make his standout in the crowd by adding metallic gold paint and by lifting the body significantly. This truck certainly matches Shaq in terms of being hard to miss.
Not A Bike, A Trike
When you have more money than one person could spend, you may as well buy everything custom. That's why Shaq hired Underground Garage to produce his very own custom Chopper Trike.
Someone as large and heavy as Shaq would be a bit safer on three wheels than two. Plus, just look at the size of that thing. If he laid on the ground, the three-wheeler might actually be as long as the 7’1″ legendary basketball player.
A Little Something For The Great Outdoors
Where many people have to consider all of their activities when buying a car, Shaq has the luxury of owning a different car for any number of activities. For the outdoorsy trips, he has a Jeep Wrangler.
The Wrangler was also designed to be a more comfortable ride, which is important when you're a large individual. You also may have noticed that something looks different about this vehicle. That’s because there are two extra-large doors instead of four.
You Can't Miss This One
Between being seven-feet-tall and being a celebrity, Shaquille O'Neal is probably used to being a standout. That might be why he went with an eye-catching cherry red paint color for his Cadillac Escalade.
The ride wouldn’t be complete without Shaq’s trademark Superman logo. He had the front grill customized so that the logo sits right at the front of the car. Despite being tall, he likes the looks of lowered cars and had the height adjusted as well as the tires to hold the weight.
Keep An Eye Out For This Sports Car
It's not uncommon to dream of having a sports car. Even the least enthusiastic drivers get a thrill at the thought of racing around in a Ferrari. For a wealthy athlete like Shaq, he’s going to pick the best of the best.
That’s why he went with an Extended Ferrari 355 Spider. This model was built to improve the performance of other Ferraris. Obviously, a large man, like Shaq, may have some trouble squeezing into a sports car, so he adjusted the vehicle and removed the top.
Watch Out For This Slingshot
Though this Polaris Slingshot is considered a 4-Seater, we're not so sure more than one person could comfortably fit in the slender vehicle with Shaq driving. Then again, when you have the car budget that he does, you can afford to be a little unrealistic.
Speaking of unrealistic, this car doesn’t offer airbags! That’s why riders have to wear motorcycle helmets in certain dominions, according to The Drive. With a showy car like that, we’re fairly confident it’s only ever taken on a trip around the block anyways.
That's More Like It
The 4-Seater Polaris Slingshot was clearly not enough for a man of Shaq's stature. But when you have friends in high places, you don’t have to worry about missing out on something for long.
This Super-Sized Polaris Slingshot with the Superman logo on the seats was obviously made with Shaq in mind. The grill makes the car look like a transformer while the wheels are clearly made to hold some weight. Now Shaq can feel like this machine was made for him.
A Legendary Brand For A Legendary Player
Something about the Cadillac DTS screams luxury. While it's not as flashy as some of Shaq’s other cars, we imagine this would be his pick when he’s headed to a business meeting.
Similar to his hummer, this car is painted deep burgundy which adds to its sleek and classic aesthetic. This beauty comes with a variety of options that we’d bet Shaq had to agree to, including chrome wheels, Magnetic Ride Control, and a heated steering wheel.
A Big Van For A Big Man
Every van is a minivan when you're Shaq, so it’s no surprise that he went with this customized Chevrolet G1500 to ensure he would fit comfortably with several other riders.
When it came to customizing this car, he didn’t have to worry about adjusting it so he could fit. Instead, he went with quilted Louis Vuitton leather seats so his entire family could ride comfortably. He also opted for custom rims so people walking by know that this is no ordinary van.
Nothing Can Dodge This Dodge
The Dodge Challenger Hellcat is one powerful muscle car, perfect for a strong athlete like Shaquill O'Neil. With 707 horsepower thanks to it’s 6.2 L HEMI V-8 engine, this vehicle can fly down the streets and whip around corners, even with a large athlete in the car.
Any car named "Challenger" is a good pick for one of the ultimate competitors in basketball. Shaquill O’Neil is not a force to be reckoned with, and neither is this car.
A Toy Car Or A Reverse Trike?
At first glance, it may look like Shaq is sitting in a really expensive adult toy car. However, if you ask Motorcycle.com, that Vanderhall Venice 3 Wheel Roadster is actually a reverse trike.
You can't see in this photograph, but there’s only one wheel behind Shaq. Another surprise is that it isn’t obscenely priced, ringing in somewhere between $30 and $50k depending on the model. The lightweight vehicle is fun to drive, but not realistic for more than play.
The Police Force Just Got A Lot Cooler
In case you're wondering why Shaquille O’Neal is pointed to a man wearing a police badge, that’s because Shaq is now a sheriff’s deputy in Georgia. Naturally, he needed a police car, but the NBA legend wasn’t going to settle for just any old cruiser.
The Clayton County Police Department offered Shaq this Dodge Charger Hellcat Police Special to drive in. Driving around in one of his incredible cars is one thing, but doing so while working for the police force is quite another.
A Staple Vehicle In The Collection
Similar to the red Cadillac Escalade we saw earlier on, this black Range Rover sports the Superman logo Shaq loves so much on the car's grill. Everything else about the car looks relatively normal, except one other thing.
If you look closely, you can tell that the windows have been tinted. However, they aren’t just slightly tinted; they’re completely blacked out like a limousine, even in the driver’s and passenger’s sides. That all-sleek and shiny look makes this the classiest Range Rover yet.
Meet Big Hoffa
You know you're a star when you have a tour bus with your face on it. Shaq even named his beloved, customized tour bus "Big Hoffa" for reference. And he couldn’t forget that super-sized Superman logo.
Big Hoffa here may be huge, but it’s important to remember that the discomfort of being cramped while traveling for a long time is exemplified when you’re Shaq’s size. Plus, all of that room allows for a larger canvas for Shaq to plaster his image across.
The Most Luxurious Van Around
Since a tour bus can be a little ostentatious, Shaq also has this beautiful van to transport himself and a large group of others. However, this isn't a typical car. It’s a customized Sprinter Mercedes Van, which means it’s about as luxurious as a van can be.
The amenities of this vehicle you would expect in a house rather than a van. It has white, quilted seats, hardwood floors, a flat-screen television, and an iPad.
A Stylish Mercedes Benz
This Mercedes Benz S550 has a few features that make it an ideal convertible for someone like Shaq. For one, it has four doors instead of two, which isn't always the case with convertibles.
Another benefit is that there isn’t a partition between the front and back windows. The extra space makes it easier for Shaquille to get in and out of the vehicle without bumping into anything. He also modified the side vents and the tire rims for an extra touch of style.
Come With Me If You Want To Drive
This Ford F-650 was painted with the Terminator in mind. The hood and the rear have images of a robotic face modeled after that popular franchise, and flames along the top half.
Below the doors is a step with more terminator faces and red eyes peeking out. While this hunk of metal may look like a powerful giant, it only gets about 7 miles to the gallon according to autoevolution. Once again, this vehicle is all for show.
Shaq's Big Diesel
You know you've made it when you can get away with sticking a "Big Diesel" license plate on your Rolls Royce. In all fairness, it does have a 6.75 L engine and at half a million dollars, it better be well equipped.
The body of the car is a comfortable fit for a sedan thanks to its boxy shape. The blue color is eye-catching, but not cheesy. The last thing you’d want to do is lower the prestige of such a luxury vehicle.
Shaq's Biggest Purchase Yet
Shaq sat down with Vanity Fair in 2012 and confessed that he'd made a rather abrupt purchase when he was younger that, looking back, he can’t help but disapprove. The NBA player was still with the Lakers when he decided to stop in at a Rolls-Royce dealership.
After seeing Mike Tyson purchase multiple Bentleys, he asked the salesman what the price was for one. When the salesman doubted that Shaq could afford it, the heated celebrity decided to buy three right away out of spite. As Shaq put it, "A million dollars gone in 10 minutes."
Built For Shaquille
When most people think of buying a car, they don't imagine having to put it together themselves. Initially, that’s how the Vaydor worked. It was a kit that could be purchased and then added to an existing vehicle.
Later on, the kit was expanding into a ready-to-go vehicle that would cost a whopping $150,000. Super Craft built this one up for Shaq with plenty of leg room. Even though he’s more of a Superman person, it’s worth noting that the same model belonged to the Joker in the film Suicide Squad.
The King Of Speed And Comfort
It seems like whenever there isn't a Superman logo on his car, Shaq is sure to wear one on his t-shirt. That must be why he’s wearing one while posing with one of the workers at Droptop Customs and this convertible Dodge Challenger they customized for Shaq.
Between the suede-leather seats and the V-8 fuel injected powertrain, it’s safe to say this is a nice ride to take out on the town. This is one of Shaq’s cars that lands right on the line where comfort meets fun.
Just The Right Size
This Ford F-650 is the same model as the Terminator one we saw earlier but without the outlandish theme. While Shaq normally customizes his vehicles so each one has his own unique spin on it, this one is predominantly true to its origin.
The 6.7L V8 Turbo engine and 725 lb-ft torque make this giant truck worth the six-figure price tag. Despite being a hardy but average-looking truck, the chrome steps and rims add just enough flare for Shaq's taste.
Even Shaq Can Squeeze Into A Smart Car
Between all of his gas-guzzling trucks, vans, and SUVs, Shaq had to balance out his CO2 emissions somehow. Unfortunately, smart cars and large athletes aren't always the best mix.
Good on Shaquille for making the effort to squeeze into this Mercedes smart car, anyways. The photograph was captured in New York City, which is so packed that most people opt to avoid driving altogether. If you’re going to sacrifice space, it’s going to be in one of the most compact cities out there.
How Low Can Your Lambo Go?
This stretched Lamborghini Gallardo barely comes up to Shaq's hips. It certainly shows off his love of lowered cars, being that the body of the car is nearly touching the street. You wouldn’t want to fly over a speed bump in this car, that’s for sure.
Shaq must have to squat down to the floor just to shimmy into this vehicle. However, there appears to be plenty of room lengthwise for his long legs, and the sleek design is great for speed.
Where Class Meets Function
The Buick Lacrosse was built to be a smooth ride with ample control. It also is rather roomy for being so sleek. These may be a couple of the reasons why Shaq has endorsed the brand.
While some of the cars in his collection make him seem like a kid trying out a new toy, when Shaq appears in Buick commercials he always looks business official. The athlete did get an MBA in Business to break stereotypes, and his Buick Lacrosse may have helped break a few more.
The First Of Many
All collections must start somewhere. As for Shaq's mound of impressive vehicles, it all began with a Ford Bronco II. The advantage of this car was pretty much limited to its spacious build.
The car was discontinued after years of poor performance reviews by critics. While it seems odd that the great Shaquille O’Neal would own a car that had poor sales, this was long before he became a star. It goes to show that everyone had to start somewhere.
His Grown-Up Ford
Considering the fact that Shaq started out with a Ford SUV, it seems only fitting that he would end up also owning a Lincoln Navigator. The model is the luxury counterpart to Ford's Expedition, which was the successor of the Ford Bronco.
Despite all of his luxury cars over the years, there’s something symbolic about returning to the twice-upgraded version of the car he had as a kid. Now he can modify it and truly make it his own.
A Car Can Only Do So Much
All of the cars in the world wouldn't be enough to explore the ocean. That’s why Shaq had to get a yacht. TMZ captured a few photos of Shaq and friends leaping off the yacht near the coast of Spain.
When he first made the purchase, he took to Facebook to ask for name suggestions. Few responders took the task seriously, so he was met with some sarcasm and jokes. Kudos to the celebrity athlete for at least keeping the fans in mind.
Time For An Upgrade
In case you're wondering, no, you’re not experiencing deja vu. We had previously show you a car that looks just about identical to this one. The difference? This one is a newer version of the Cadillac Escalade from earlier.
In addition to having a massive amount of cars, most of which he has taken care to deck out, Shaq also enjoys the occasional upgrade. It may seem redundant to get a newer version of the same car, but to someone as wealthy as Shaq it’s comparable to getting an upgraded phone.
